Castell Encus

The Pyrenees region is a true challenge for wine makers: clima is extreme and soils are poor. But when the wine maker is a perfectionist, as Raül Bobet is, results are amazing.

The altitude brings the opportunity to create fresher wines without giving up good maturation: Cold temperatures in winter, and a sharp contrast between day and night throughout the year, together with a huge variety of soils, are some of the secrets that make it possible to obtain high quality wines with great potential for ageing

ACUSP

Acusp comes from latin ‘cuspis’ and means the top of a mountain. We find this word in the first texts that refer to Castell d’Encus. On the Encus mountain range is where our Pinot Noir vineyards are situated.
Hand-harvested using small boxes of 10kg. The grapes come exclusively from our estate, from our vineyards located on the top of the mountain range, at 1,000 m above sea level . This wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and in stone vats from the 12th century. All the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.

TASTING NOTE
Open, varietal wine with medium high intensity. Shows notes of pomegranate with subtle hints of fresh Cherry. Very smooth on the palate, with goodlength. Promises to become a classic.

Varieties: Pinot Noir 100%
Wine Spectator, 84 points (2013).

EKAM

Hand-picked grapes in small, 10 kg cases from the estate blocks. A small percentage of the grapes were harvested with noble root. Fermented in 25 Hl and 50 Hl small tanks at low temperatures.
This wine will develop the cold weather Riesling complexity while ageing in the bottle, always well integrated with the high acidity and long glycerine characteristics from botrytis wine. It has a significant ageing potential

AROMA
Complex, with aromas of kiwi, green apple, and subtle hints of freshly shelled tender broad beans

TASTING NOTE
Lively entry with notes of unripe peach. It shows good length and great aging potential.. Varieties: 85% Riesling, 15% Albariño

QUEST

Hand harvested using small boxes of 10kg. The grapes come exclusively from our single estate vineyard. The wine was fully fermented in the stone gravity vats which were used by the Hospitaliers monks in the 12th century. It went through malolactic fermentation in French barrels where the wine aged for 17 months.
This wine will develop all its complexity while ageing in bottle.

AROMA
Vivid notes of forest fruits, with a predominance of currants and vanilla. At this point, it already exhibits great complexity.

TASTING NOTE
Very velvety entry, with notes of mountain blueberries.

Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot

TAÏKA

Hand-harvested using small boxes of 10 kg. The grapes come exclusively from our single estate vineyard. The wine was fermented in small 25 hl stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was stopped when the wine had enough residual sugar to ensure second fermentation in the bottle without adding any external sugar. Aged in bottle for 70 months.
In the bottle this wine will further develop the typical complexity from cold climate sparkling wines.

AROMA
Good aromatic intensity, withfruity notes of freshpear.

TASTING NOTE
Very small bubble and hints of Winter apple. Entrancewithgood acidityandlong andcomplex development

Varieties: 50% Semillon, 50% Sauvignon Blanc

TALEIA

Manual harvesting in small boxes of 10kg of grapes coming solely from the own farm. A part of the wine has been fermented in barrels of new French oak, with a certain period of aging on lies. The rest of the wine has been elaborated in small stainless tubes of 25 hl. Thanks to its acidity, there is a clear message: “Be patient, I will age very well, I will become magical and complex,” as long as it is stored in appropriate conditions and temperature. Good range of pairing possibilities, no opulence at all.

AROMA
Clean, with a certain shyness and elegance. Light citrus notes, with nuances of dry peach and quince.

TASTING NOTE
Entry with fat, with hints of apricot, accompanied by an integrated acidity. Very long in the mouth and with great aging potential.

Varieties: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

THALARN

Hand harvested and using small boxes of 10kg. The grapes come exclusively from our single estate vineyard. This wine was fermented in stone vats from the 12th C, new French barriques and in small stainless steel tanks. It went through malolactic in French oak barrels where the wine aged for 12 months.
Precipitation may occur due to the fact that the wine has not been clarified nor filtered. Therefore decanting is recommended.

AROMA
Notes of raspberry pie and mountain blackberry, accompanied by nuances of spices, vanilla and noble wood perfume..

TASTING NOTE
Sweet entry, with fruit, spices and notes of pepper, nuanced by the nerve of the wine. It is a northern style Syrah, where spices and fruit play on equal terms.

BURBULLA

Made with 100% single-varietal Albariño grapes with a good sensory balance, with meticulously-selected grapes. De-stemmed, pneumatically pressed, controlled fermentation at 18°C before being decanted to separate it from the lees and thereby obtain the base wine. Second fermentation in bottles at 14°C for a minimum of nine months. Disgorged and expedition liqueur added.

AROMA
With a subtle complexity, it exhibits floral, fruity and plant aromas with a predominance of acacia flower, linden blossom and fresh grass. When swirled, presents notes of magnolia flower, reminiscent of baked goods, hints of multi-flower honey, white-fleshed pip fruits and stone fruits. Finish with a background of light caramel.

TASTING NOTE
Lively and elegant attack in the mouth, very broad, with floral flavours and a certain amount of minerality. The body evokes nuts and just the right tartness from notes of grapefruit. Gentle and harmonious fizz, balanced acidity and intense finish.
