Coma Romà, at the forefront of wine ecology
In Blossom Wines we bet for the export of the best products of a select group of Spanish wineries of marked family character, that develop the organic viticulture, respecting their closest surroundings of nature and above all, the properties and the characteristics of their vineyards.
One of our most representative and iconic wineries is Coma Romà, a project that emerged more than 700 years ago in the heart of the Catalan Penedès, specifically, in the heart of the Guilera family of Sant Pau d’Ordal. Therefore, the curious and identifiable name of the company comes from the denomination of one of the plots of the farm, designed by their family ancestors.

In Coma Romà they make their own wines, exclusively and directly, from the grapes of the different lands that are distributed by their farm. It is an ecological space, in a recognizable calcareous clay soil, and very varied, due to the cultivation in small plots on terraces, located at different altitudes and sun exposition. In addition, in this area of Catalonia you enjoy a changing climate every year, so your goal is always to get the best wine in relation to the oscillation of these heterogeneous environmental conditions.
On the other hand, since the Roman era there were already vineyards in this region of the peninsular east, so the task of making a good organic wine was presented, several decades ago, as necessary and relevant, without losing an iota of the family essence and of the references of the intensive work carried out since the Middle Ages in this important site.
In addition, as a differentiating feature, the cultivation of the vine has always been combined in the Penedès with two others of a purely Mediterranean nature: olive and cereals. All these nuances can be seen in each of the wines that are shown by Coma Romà. Therefore, as its philosophy determines, they are unique wines created to satisfy the needs of wine lovers with personality and authenticity.
A rise market and in constant progress
Despite the wide range of organic wines on the market, those that are part of the Coma Romà catalog are different and innovative. At all times, the purpose of the winery when making its products is not to use industrial chemical components to be as respectful as possible with the environment. In this way, the wines they produce are the maximum reflection of the land where the vines and grapes grow.

And since the difference is the taste, for Coma Romà it is essential that the production of their wines is limited and sustainable, using only their oldest vines, those with less production. In the words of those responsible for the winery, «we believe that the production must be reasonable, since we receive a legacy from our ancestors and we believe that our responsibility is to leave it as we received it, without damaging anything, and as far as possible, even better. »
In this sense, the result is clear: an annual production limited to around 10,000 liters. In addition, the efforts of Coma Romà for the next months will focus on consolidating the products they currently have in the market, continuing with the improvement of the maximum expression of their soils.
And what does Coma Romà ask of this new year 2019?
Without hesitation, the answer is clear. The medium term goal is for the quality of their wines to be recognized in more and more countries, where they can value the effort and dedication they put into each of the products they present to consumers.
